Deoksugung: Ordinary Evening Access, Guided Walks and Seokjojeon Booking

GollabaSource checked: Editorial review:
The short answer

Deoksugung’s ordinary grounds are listed for 09:00–21:00 access, with entry ending at 20:00. That does not make every interior open at night: Seokjojeon uses a reserved guided visit and exhibition buildings close earlier. Choose between an evening grounds walk, a regular language tour and the reserved interior before fixing the day.

Some source checks are due for review. Confirm current details with the official provider before travelling.

Choose grounds, interpretation or an interior

The late ordinary closing can suit a visitor finishing other city-center plans before a palace walk. It does not mean you can arrive in the evening and enter Seokjojeon on the same terms. Seeing a building from outside and joining its reserved guided interior are different visits.

If the interior is the reason you are coming, secure that session first and fit the grounds around it. If interpretation matters, use a regular language-tour time as the anchor. For an evening atmosphere, use the grounds’ opening instead of assuming an exhibition will also be available.

Check the date, not only the weekday

Monday is the regular closure. When it coincides with a public or substitute holiday, the official rule opens the palace and closes on the next first non-holiday. “Always closed Monday” and “always open Tuesday” can therefore both mislead on a specific date.

Entry at 20:00 and closing at 21:00 are different deadlines. Arriving just before last admission does not create time for interiors and a language tour. Choose an arrival that fits the visit you actually want and check the day’s exceptions.

Nationality changes the age exemption

At the check, ordinary individual paid admission is ₩1,000. The published paid band is ages nineteen to sixty-four for foreigners and twenty-five to sixty-four for Korean nationals. Do not copy a domestic exemption into advice telling every foreign visitor in their early twenties that entry is free.

Check the official proof and eligibility for age, hanbok or another exemption. The palace’s art-museum visit also requires its own ticket as well as the grounds ticket. The small ordinary fee is not a complete budget for every optional visit.

Name the correct guided program

The regular palace-building tour has language-specific times. The official page permits individual visitors in groups below ten to join at the scheduled time without a separate tour fee; larger groups need advance booking. Foreign-language interpretation is intended for foreign visitors, with an exception for accompanying Korean nationals.

Seokjojeon interpretation is a separate program. Verify which language, date and reservation you need. Recording a guide’s voice or video requires advance consent. Weather warnings or operational circumstances may cancel or shorten interpretation, so it is not a guaranteed performance.

Build different daytime and evening plans

For daytime, our editorial sequence is a confirmed interior or interpretation session, permitted grounds and a meal. An evening plan centers on open grounds and the return, not on interiors assumed to remain open. The two visits should not share an identical completion checklist.

Save 99 Sejong-daero and the actual Daehanmun entrance in a current map. A central location does not make every subway exit equivalent. In rain, reduce outside walking and rely only on an indoor visit that is genuinely open and, where required, reserved.

Questions before buying

Is evening access necessarily a special ticket like a seasonal Gyeongbokgung event? Separate Deoksugung’s ordinary evening opening from a special program. Does grounds admission reserve Seokjojeon? No. Is its English session the same as the regular palace tour? These are separate programs.

Is the art museum included? Check its separate ticket. No session available? Change to a grounds visit or another day rather than paying for an itinerary that claims an unconfirmed interior.

The final Deoksugung checklist

Write grounds admission, interpretation, interior reservation and museum admission as separate items. A clear visit type makes the date and arrival decision easier.

  • Check closure exceptions and notices
  • Check grounds and interior cutoffs
  • Check nationality/age and evidence
  • Separate language tour and Seokjojeon booking
  • Check museum cost, return and rain fallback
