Put three names on the map
Railay is more than its west beach. Save Railay West, Railay East and Phra Nang Beach separately, then identify where your boat actually lands. The mangrove shore on the east should not be expected to provide the same beach experience as the west. At Phra Nang, the Princess Cave is associated with local worship: leave offerings alone and avoid obstructing people praying. Even when the map looks compact, allow for wet sand, heat and the walking pace of the slowest person in your group.

What a return ticket actually covers
Ask for the departure pier, return beach or pier, operator, waiting arrangement and last boarding time when buying. Do not confuse Ao Nang and Ao Nam Mao connections simply because both mention Railay. A hotel’s shared-boat timetable describes its own transfer arrangement, not a universal public schedule. Once the return is agreed, keep the ticket and contact details dry. If you are late, do not assume another company will accept the same ticket without an additional payment.
A day with two beaches is enough
If arriving on the west, first locate the return meeting point, spend time by the beach and use the internal connection toward the east and Phra Nang. Reverse the sequence when the landing makes that more sensible. Include lunch and shade, then return before the agreed boat time. If a climbing lesson is the priority, confirm instructor, equipment and duration separately and drop a beach stop. Steep viewpoint or lagoon routes are not the default itinerary for a group carrying bags or travelling with children.
Finish with boarding and weather checks
Do not assume every vessel meets a level fixed pier; ask whether boarding involves sand or shallow water. If someone needs mobility assistance, request photographs and a specific explanation of available help. Bring drinking water, sun protection, suitable footwear and waterproof phone storage, with essential cash kept separately. A sunny photograph or money already spent is not a reason to sail in unsuitable conditions. If service is cancelled, confirm the practical alternative and follow the operator’s actual change or refund terms.
