Where to Stay in Krabi: Ao Nang, Railay, Town or a Resort Beach?

GollabaSource checked: Editorial review:
The short answer

Start with Ao Nang if you want to combine independent meals and several excursions on a first visit. Choose Railay when its scenery and time spent there are central, but plan the final boat leg with your luggage. Krabi Town is a candidate for riverside and town life; Klong Muang and Tubkaek are candidates for a property-focused resort stay. The actual hotel’s access, dining and pickup arrangements matter more than the district label.

Krabi in the address is not enough

Do not treat Krabi as the name of a single beach. Pin the hotel and check three journeys: dinner, tour departure and the airport. The table is not a ranking of average room prices. An outlying Ao Nang property differs from one near the beachfront, and a town address does not make every holiday cheaper. Decide whether you want each evening to end around independent restaurants or inside your room and resort; that often narrows the area more effectively than a star rating.

Book through the last boat leg for Railay

Rayavadee’s Nong Nuch pier is an example of that resort’s connection, not the common arrival for every Railay property. Ask your own hotel about pier, vessel, baggage handling and alternatives for a late flight arrival. A private car does not automatically mean a private boat. For departure, confirm the sailing and airport margin together. If the final morning becomes too complicated, compare a last-night mainland stay against its extra cost and luggage move rather than assuming a boat can leave whenever needed.

Price the journeys repeated every day

If morning pickups and dinner rides repeat daily, they can matter more than a difference in room rates. Send the tour operator the full hotel name and map pin to verify pickup coverage. For a property-focused break, leave enough time to use the room, pool and dining you are paying for. Check whether the advertised sea view belongs to the booked room and whether beds and breakfast cover your children. Marketing about calm water throughout the year is not a swimming assessment for your visit.

Check the property beyond its photographs

Read the hotel’s current facility notices. Rayavadee, for example, publishes separate 2026 refurbishment periods, illustrating why an older photograph does not guarantee the same pool or restaurant is available during a stay. This is a reason to verify a required facility, not a blanket warning against that hotel. Do not compare flexible and non-changeable room rates as equivalent purchases. Save which arrangements must be amended separately if the flight changes: accommodation, car, boat and any onward tour may be different reservations.

  • Map hotel, dinners, excursions and airport access
  • For Railay check pier, boat, bags and delay plan
  • Save room inclusions, facility notices and change terms
