People and nights
Write the number of hotel nights separately from days in Korea. A three-night stay can create spending on four calendar days, even if only two are full sightseeing days. Count the people paying adult fares and check children's conditions separately.
Keep one column for costs per person, one for costs per room and one for the whole group. An Express train ticket is per passenger; a room quote may cover two people or may add occupancy charges. A vehicle quote may cover the group but not every suitcase or extra stop. Never multiply all three categories by the same number of travelers.
Transport and admission
Current examples include the AREX Express adult displayed selling price of KRW 13,000 and Seoul's adult subway base transport-card fare of KRW 1,550. These do not cover every rail journey, surcharge, airport transfer or local connection.
Gyeongbokgung's ordinary daytime admission for foreign adults aged 19–64 is KRW 3,000. The National Museum of Korea's permanent galleries are free, while paid special exhibitions are separate. These can help you design a lower-admission day; they do not make transport, lunch or accommodation free. Keep foreign-currency conversions separate from the KRW figures and use your actual bank or card conversion when settling the budget.
A worked budget
Imagine two adults sharing one room for three nights and budgeting for four food-spending days. Assume a room quote of KRW 120,000 per night, a chosen food allowance of KRW 40,000 per person per day, a group city-transport allowance of KRW 60,000 and an airport-transport allowance of KRW 60,000. These four amounts are hypothetical choices, not researched market averages or guaranteed fares.
Replace each assumed figure with your own quote or spending choice before using the total. If actual transport costs exceed an allowance, raise the budget; do not interpret the allowance as a promised fare.

Hotels and meals
For accommodation, compare the same dates, occupancy, room type, taxes, breakfast and cancellation deadline. Separate a refundable price from a cheaper non-refundable one. For food, choose the meals you expect to buy: hotel breakfast if included, a simple lunch, one planned restaurant dinner and café stops. Use actual menus where available rather than a single “Korean meal” price.
Mark discretionary shopping separately so that it cannot consume your transport home. When comparing a tour, check whether the listed amount is per person or per group and whether admission, meals, pickup, tips or extra options are included. A cheap headline amount can describe a different option from the one you intend to book.
Avoid duplicate spending
Cluster nearby visits to reduce repeated journeys; compare a transport pass only against the rides you will take. Use a free permanent museum collection as a deliberate part of the itinerary, not as filler. Choose one paid observation deck or special exhibition you genuinely want instead of buying overlapping packages because both are discounted.
A guide can be worthwhile when explanation or coordination changes the experience. Compare that value with independent entry, not solely the ticket price. Conversely, a low-cost city day does not need a tour simply to fill the schedule. Keep a meal break and a realistic route even when trying to reduce spending.
Before you pay
Keep two budget columns: already committed and still estimated. Record prepaid hotel or ticket costs once, even when they later appear again in your itinerary. At the end of each day, update actual transport and meal spending and adjust the remaining allowance. If an unexpected expense occurs, decide which optional purchase to change rather than treating every forecast as fixed. A useful budget gives you choices; it is not a promise that another traveler will spend the same amount.
