There is more than one Arashiyama station
JR Saga-Arashiyama, Randen Arashiyama and Hankyu Arashiyama are separate locations. Include the operator when arranging a meeting or searching from your hotel. A pin labeled only “Arashiyama” can send you back across the area after arrival.
Someone staying near Kyoto Station need not use the same route as someone based in Kawaramachi. Compare the walk from the train to your first desired stop, not merely the train ride. Choose a return station too, but do not assume it must be the same station where you arrived.
Choose what you want to see at Tenryu-ji
The checked admission page lists JPY 500 for the garden for high-school age and older, with JPY 300 extra for the buildings. Cloud Dragon viewing in the Dharma Hall is separately JPY 500 and is not open on identical terms every day. Ceremonies can close buildings while garden access remains available, so check the visit-date notice.
Budget JPY 500 for a garden-focused visit or JPY 800 for garden and buildings. The table compares entry scope for that age category, not meals or transport. Buying every available ticket is not a requirement for a worthwhile visit; give the spaces that interest you enough time.

Make room for a pause between the sights
Link a garden visit and bamboo walk with a riverside break. Gollaba’s half-day suggestion describes a way to spend time, not a measured speed record. Adjust the order to available entrances, crowds and the group’s walking pace. A temple ticket is not an unrestricted neighborhood re-entry pass.
Stay out of fenced areas and never carve into bamboo. Do not block the path to manufacture an empty photograph. Around the river and Togetsukyo, leave space for other pedestrians; crossing the bridge is not an obligation if the group would enjoy stopping on one side instead.
Treat the scenic train as a separate itinerary
The Sagano Romantic Train is not the ordinary JR service from Kyoto Station to Saga-Arashiyama. Similar names do not make the boarding points, seats, tickets or operating calendar interchangeable. If your ticket ends at Torokko Kameoka, decide how you will continue or return before booking.
When comparing a transport-and-experience package, read whether it includes only the train or additional connections. If considering a river boat as well, separately confirm the boat operator’s boarding point, connection time and operating decision. Adding the train while preserving every stop of the original half-day can make the schedule unnecessarily tight.
Keep a satisfying short version
In difficult heat or rain, reduce the visit to one garden, a meal and a short bamboo walk. Starting early does not solve every weather, crowd or energy problem. Travelers with strollers or mobility needs should check entrances and level changes first, keeping stair-heavy optional activities separate from the basic route.
Before returning, check the station, your next booking, any luggage-collection deadline and phone battery. Blossom or foliage photographs do not establish conditions for your date. If you have enjoyed the garden and neighborhood you wanted, the itinerary does not need another distant stop to be complete.
