Reach the railway after completing arrivals
After immigration and baggage procedures, follow Airport Rail Link signs to B1 of the main terminal. AOT currently lists a 05:30–24:00 operating window, but that is not a promise that the last train leaves every station at midnight. Allow for the time between landing and reaching the station. Near closing, confirm the last departure in your direction and the onward connection with staff, and keep a car alternative available.
Choose the interchange from the hotel backwards
Phaya Thai connects with BTS, while Makkasan connects with MRT Phetchaburi. Start with the station and exit that actually serve your hotel instead of memorising an interchange name. Include movement between platforms, checking the next ticket or payment method, lift access and the final walk. If the hotel is far from rail, compare adding a taxi after the train with taking a car from the airport, using the same luggage and party size.
Separate ordinary taxis from booked and premium cars
For the ordinary airport taxi queue, use the level-one service area between gates 4 and 7 and obtain a queue ticket. Check the metered fare plus the 50 THB airport surcharge, any toll roads used and whether baggage charges apply. For Grab, match the app to the designated pickup area and on-site signs. Premium taxis and prebooked cars are different products; do not assume their pricing follows the ordinary metered-taxi structure.

A booked car also needs a delay plan
Provide the flight number, actual arrival terminal, party and bag count, and check when included waiting starts and what extra time costs. Confirm child seats and large luggage rather than judging capacity by the number of seats alone. Recheck the airport code: BKK and Don Mueang’s DMK are different airports. The complimentary inter-airport shuttle is for connecting air passengers, not a free city-hotel transfer. For a late arrival, arrange the hotel’s check-in contact as well as the driver’s.
