Choose the experience before counting destinations
A Yufuin walk, a Beppu hells visit and a long bath are different activities. The hot sightseeing pools at the hells are not places to get into the water. For bathing, identify a separate facility and its entry conditions.
Covering two destinations in a day limits time at each. If lunch and bathing are the point, one place may be enough. Use the table to compare priorities, not to rank one travel style above all others.

Check the actual train for your travel date
Yufuin no Mori is all reserved seating: a rail pass does not guarantee the service you want. Check whether your particular train ends at Yufuin or continues to Beppu, and add local travel after the station.
The September 2026 notice substitutes Yufu 73/74 for Yufuin no Mori 3/4 through 18 September, without buffet service. Distinguish these from 1/2/5/6. Recheck the announced resumption from 19 September, especially if the train interior is part of your reason for travelling.
A highway bus is transport, not a guided tour
Nishitetsu’s Yufuin service requires a seat reservation and arrives at the station-front bus centre. It does not provide the organised sightseeing schedule of a day tour. Confirm whether your departure is Tenjin, Hakata or the airport international terminal.
The checked standard adult one-way Fukuoka fare is ¥3,250: two undiscounted journeys total ¥6,500 before local transport, food and entry fees. Compare discount payment and change deadlines, reserve the return as well, and retain a traffic margin.
Match the tour stops before matching its price
Beppu’s seven hells are split across two areas, not one enclosed attraction. A tour mentioning Beppu does not necessarily visit all seven or include every admission. Find the named stops, time there, meal arrangements and any actual bathing provision.
Similar listings on Klook, KKday or GetYourGuide may differ in departure, language and minimum group size. Align date and party size, then add exclusions. This guide does not claim live availability or a verified cheapest seller.
Book the return, then work out the time on the ground
For independent travel, secure both directions and calculate usable time after arrival. Yufuin–Beppu is another journey; it is not included merely because you calculated a return from Fukuoka. Choose one destination or add an overnight if the connections are too tight.
For a tour, read late-arrival, weather-change, cancellation and return-location terms. Avoid a tight flight connection after a long road day. Save contact details and current operating notices, not just attractive destination photographs.
