Nara has two relevant arrival stations
From Namba, start by comparing Kintetsu Osaka-Namba to Kintetsu-Nara. JR Nara is also worth considering when your hotel or a genuinely applicable JR pass makes it convenient. Add the journey from the arrival station to the park before judging the alternatives.
The prefectural area guide describes a short walk from Kintetsu-Nara and roughly 20 minutes along Sanjo-dori from JR Nara. Neither is the total journey to the Great Buddha Hall entrance. If choosing a Kintetsu limited express, its additional ticket is separate from the basic fare; inspect the train category in the search result.
Build the day around the park and Great Buddha Hall
Walk toward the park after arrival and make the hall your principal scheduled visit. If going inside matters, do not let deer photographs or lunch push admission to the edge of closing time. Follow the visit with a meal and rest, then extend the nearby walk only if the group has energy.
This is Gollaba’s proposed sequence, not an official duration schedule. The optional walk below is not another obligation. A late departure or a family visit can use the same smaller area at a slower pace instead of adding another shrine or garden.

Distinguish hall admission from the museum combination
The checked general adult fee for the Great Buddha Hall is JPY 800, with a hall-and-Todai-ji-Museum combination at JPY 1,200. Compare the combined ticket when you genuinely want both. Buying extra access is not a saving if you have left no time to use it.
The hall lists 07:30–17:30 from April to October and 08:00–17:00 from November to March; the museum uses a different timetable. Check the seasonal closing and admission arrangements for each space rather than treating the entire temple as one ticketed attraction with one schedule.
The deer are wild, not a managed petting attraction
Being accustomed to people does not make the deer domestic. If feeding them, use only the designated shika senbei crackers; do not tease or grab them. Keep paper, plastic and human snacks away, including food in bags. A photograph is not worth leaving a small child surrounded while holding food.
Feeding is optional; observing from a distance is a valid visit. No animal response is guaranteed, so apparent calm is not an invitation to increase contact. Also, a deer-conservation organisation’s listed office hours are not opening hours for the entire park or a guaranteed deer-viewing window.
Budget the whole day, not just admission
Two adults visiting only the Great Buddha Hall have published admission costs of 800×2 = JPY 1,600. Add return transport from the real starting station and lunch. If both also want the museum, the combined tickets total 1,200×2 = JPY 2,400; adding the earlier JPY 1,600 again would double-count the hall.
For a bus-tour comparison, check travel to the meeting point, temple admission, meals and guide language. A fragment of an independent trip cannot be fairly compared with an entire tour. Match the group and inclusions before comparing currencies.
Keep enough energy for the return
Walking accumulates inside the park. Shorten the route in rain, heat or fatigue and examine a suitable bus or taxi connection. Do not assume every path has the same slope or surface; start with a smaller sightseeing scope when access assistance is needed.
Reconfirm the return station, operator, actual train time and the journey after your final meal. Separate the budget into return transport, chosen admission, meals and optional deer crackers. Completing the main visit and returning comfortably is enough for a successful Nara day; the unused map pins can remain unused.
