Plan to an actual station
A destination name and the railway station serving your trip are not always identical. Check the station address on a map and add the final journey to your accommodation. Be particularly careful with departures after midnight: write down the calendar date, not simply the evening on which you leave the hotel. If scenery is part of the reason for taking the train, see whether your chosen service passes the relevant section in daylight. A comfortable berth does not guarantee a daytime view.
A berth is not a whole compartment
Buying one sleeper ticket does not normally mean exclusive use of the room. Confirm the number of berths, upper or lower position and whether your group is together. If climbing to a berth is difficult, establish the actual allocation before paying rather than relying on a preference request. A branded tourist carriage still needs a train number and station details. Do not assume that every facility in a promotional photograph exists in the particular carriage and category you selected.

Check both payment and ticket issue
Use an official channel or a seller whose responsibility is clear, and enter passenger details consistently with the identity document. After payment, retrieve the order and check that the ticket is issued with the intended journey. If the page fails, inspect the existing order and card authorisation before immediately paying again. This can prevent duplicate purchases. With an intermediary, identify any service fee and who handles changes. A booking request, card notification and issued boarding document are different pieces of evidence.
Budget for the morning after the night train
Saving a hotel night does not guarantee access to a room when you arrive early. Plan luggage storage, washing, breakfast and recovery before the first activity. At the station, recheck the train number and carriage instructions, and keep the required identity document and ticket accessible. Save the current change and refund conditions for your ticket and departure date rather than applying an old holiday notice. Finally, leave slack before a flight or another inflexible booking; a scheduled rail arrival is a plan, not protection against every delay.
