Count usable days, not only nights
Two nights can still leave just one usable day if you arrive late and depart early. Mark your arrival terminal, transfer to the accommodation, room access time and departure meeting time before adding attractions. Do not assume that an overnight journey gives you immediate hotel check-in. This is a deliberately flexible editorial sequence, not a bus or rail timetable; add a day or remove an activity to suit the tickets you actually hold.

Trade the view against daily movement
For a town stay, check meeting points and meal options first. For a valley stay, ask how you reach it with luggage and what happens with dinner and transport after dark. A landscape photograph does not establish the view from your booked room. Separate room category from any promised view. Consider whether you would enjoy staying there even in cloud; this helps avoid choosing a difficult transfer purely for a photograph.
Walking and Fansipan require different questions
For a walking tour, ask about distance, ascent and descent, unpaved sections and a wet-weather alternative rather than choosing only by village name. Seek permission before photographing residents or their homes. For Fansipan, budget separately for hotel departure, mountain transport, queues, the temple areas, summit access and the return. The cable-car ride is not the length of the whole outing. Do not assume every segment is step-free.
Keep a usable fallback
If mountain views are the priority, compare the value of an extra local day and changeable bookings. An additional day still does not guarantee clear skies. Ask about extra charges and refunds when weather changes the activity, and retain a way back to your accommodation if you shorten a walk. Before leaving, save your address, meeting point, transport confirmation and local contact offline. These details matter more than filling every gap with another excursion.
