Phi Phi by Speedboat or Ferry: Transfer Ticket or Island Tour?

GollabaSource checked: Editorial review:
The short answer

First separate a transfer for a Phi Phi stay from an excursion around bays and snorkelling sites. Ferries generally offer larger vessels with cabins and decks; speedboats are smaller, but facilities and restrictions depend on the actual operator and sailing. Check whether you arrive at Tonsai or Laemtong and whether another boat is needed for the hotel. A transfer to Phi Phi neither includes nor guarantees access to Maya Bay.

Describe the purchase in one sentence

For a hotel transfer, write down origin, destination pier and direction. For a day excursion, list the actual stops and activities. A return boat ticket does not automatically include a local tour. Conversely, an excursion’s free time may not permit a hotel check-in or carriage of a large suitcase. If combining sightseeing with an overnight stay, obtain written confirmation of where you can leave the tour and how luggage is handled. Two listings saying Phi Phi are not necessarily comparable products.

Fit the vessel to the party

Inspect the actual vessel’s indoor seating, shade, toilets and boarding method. A large ferry is not motion-free, and a speedboat is not suitable for everyone. For children, older travellers, pregnancy or a health concern, check the operator’s restrictions for that sailing and seek medical advice when needed. This guide does not turn one company’s age threshold into a rule for every boat. The relevant question is whether the whole journey suits the party, not which advertised crossing time is shortest.

Match Rassada, Tonsai and Laemtong

Andaman Wave Master distinguishes Phuket departures at Rassada from arrivals at Tonsai and Laemtong on Phi Phi. Ask your hotel which arrival works and whether another boat or pickup costs extra. Its FAQ requests check-in 30 minutes before sailing, so do not count an arriving flight directly against boat departure time. Recheck baggage terms for the booked vessel and declare oversized items in advance. Confirm the return pier too; arriving at one landing does not establish where the return ticket starts.

Check Maya Bay and the flight home separately

A Phi Phi transfer operating does not establish that a particular protected beach is open for landing. Check park notices for your date and the seller’s actual substitute route; do not copy an older year’s closure dates into a new year as confirmed information. Establish what happens if sea conditions remove a stop. Leave land-transfer and delay margins after the return boat instead of adding a tight flight connection. If Maya Bay is essential, resolve access before committing to a product that may substitute another stop.

  • Separate transfer tickets from excursions
  • Verify vessel, passenger terms, bags and piers
  • Check dated park access and return margin
