teamLab Planets or Borderless: Location, Water and Booking Differences

GollabaSource checked: Editorial review:
The short answer

These are different venues, not different sellers of the same exhibition. Planets is in Toyosu; Borderless is in Azabudai Hills. Decide whether water/barefoot experiences or exploratory gallery spaces better suit you. Old claims that all of Planets is barefoot do not match the current clothing guidance. Match venue, date and party before comparing prices.

First question: Toyosu or Azabudai?

Read Planets or Borderless in the product title and save the entrance on a map. A shortened “Tokyo teamLab” label and similar light-filled pictures do not establish the same venue. Avoid navigating to Borderless’s former Odaiba location.

Pair Planets with a Toyosu-area day, or Borderless with an Azabudai-area day. Being able to book both on one day does not prove that doing so improves your trip. For a short stay, first consider experiencing one properly and leaving time for a different side of Tokyo.

Prepare for different areas at Planets

The current DMM help page permits shoes in the venue generally, with removal in some areas and barefoot participation in Water. Water may reach an adult’s knees; consider clothing that rolls up easily and footwear that is simple to remove. Do not rely on the old shorthand that the entire visit is barefoot.

If mirrored-floor reflections concern you, check garment length and coverage beforehand. The official guidance mentions loan shorts/wraps, but ask ahead about particular sizing or personal needs. Water height affects a small child differently, so consider spare clothing and suitability before booking.

At Borderless, explore rather than complete every room

Borderless emphasizes exploration rather than ticking works off a supplied map. Rushing to reproduce every scene in a photograph leaves less attention for changes in the art. Agree on how to regroup if separated and allow a space to develop before moving on.

For anyone affected by light, sound, darkness or floor conditions, check individual access arrangements at either venue. Wheelchair entry does not necessarily mean experiencing every artwork in the same way. If a particular work is essential, ask the venue about its accessible route and limitations before choosing.

Compare redemption and changes separately

Match venue, date, entry slot and party, then compare official and partner checkout totals. Distinguish admission alone from food or transport bundles. Receiving an admission QR versus needing an exchange also affects the arrival plan.

Borderless’s official guidance separates direct-booking date changes from another seller’s terms. Do not transfer a direct-booking entitlement to a partner purchase. Choosing a day when you can leave from the hotel rather than immediately after a flight makes a timed entry easier to manage.

Separate photography from visit preparation

Follow venue rules for photography, tripods, flash and commercial shoots. Permission for personal photographs does not permit blocking other visitors. It also does not grant a commercial website permission to reuse somebody else’s images.

Finish with the booking, entrance location, clothing, luggage and any assistance arrangements. Leave room for food or rest rather than a distant booking immediately afterwards. A fixed duration in someone’s review is not a requirement for everyone; finish at a pace that suits your attention and energy.
